Roundup Roundup!
Hold your horses, it's not festival season just yet.
The 25th of April marks the start of the Triptych Festival,
Scotland's early answer to the English summer festival bonanza season.Arguably Scotland's most high-profile music fest, competing with the Fringe's T In The Park and Connect in the Highlands, Triptych is a must-see for anyone looking to experience the heart and soul of Scotland's youth. Or for those who just want to show off their new Cons and maybe bump up against a M.I.A. look-alike with a cute accent.
Among Edinburgh's line-up this year are The RZA, Krafty Kuts, Annie Nightengale and Utah Saints DJs, along with a selection of films such as Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai and The Land Where The Blues Began.
For the more big ol' thespos among us, the Lyceum Theatre in Tollcross is starting a three week run of Dario Fo's Trumpets and Raspberries (fun fact: over 50% of adults cannot spell 'raspberry'), translated and adapted from its original Italian by R.C. McAvoy and A.M. Giugni.
The press literature promises confused identities, plastic surgery, biting political satire and plenty of local flavour. That, and lines like "You're going to put bits of his bum on his face?!". With a promising cast, fantastic script and localisation, Trumpets and Raspberries has enough trumpets and raspberries for the whole family, or you and your date, or you and your lonely self. Running from the 18th April - 20th May.
The 16th of May marks one of the season's most anticipated nights for club kids and fans of Edinburgh's rich architectural history alike. Spaced at The Caves features Cagedbaby, Top Button DJs and Jules Moretti, who between them have worked with the likes of Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Kavinsky and Madness.
If the reputation of this signature Ibiza event isn't enough to entice you, then the surroundings almost certainly will. The Caves is arguably Edinburgh's 'raddest' spot, occupying the underground vaults of eerie yesteryear. Tickets are £10 at the door (£12 after midnight) and £8 at Ripping Records.
