Out and About in Edinburgh

So you've fed yourself, got wasted a fair few times, and tottered about the streets of Edinburgh menacing the populace. Maybe it's time to unleash your errant ways on other venues in the city, starting off with The Stand (5 York Place, 0131 558 7272), hands down the best place for comedy in the city where a fair few famous folk have made their debut. If you're after more of an adrenaline rush, try the Edinburgh Dungeon (31 Market Street, 0131 240 1000), which is scary enough to get your blood pumping – although it might be best to leave the elderly at home. For the best and most popular tourist attraction in the city, you can't get much bigger or better than Edinburgh Castle (0131 225 9846) offering beautiful panoramic vistas of the city. Finally, to wind down, why not try the Traverse Theatre (10 Cambridge Street, 0131 228 1404)? It's the first home to many plays and gigs that have eventually found their way to theatres around the globe.

Edinburgh Zoo – Because it's not as much fun when it's freezing.
Royal Observatory – Clearer skies equals much more to see.

Top five winter activities
Arthur's Seat – A fine place to snuggle and watch the city lights.
Scotch Whisky Experience – Keep warm with a wee dram.
Princes Street Gardens – Yes we know it's in twice, but in winter it has an ice rink.
Calton Hill – The best place for a hike or a wintry picnic.
Edinburgh Dungeon – A good group huddle never hurt anyone...
