Browns
They didn't have all that sun–dried nonsense and fancy wiggly pasta in our grandparent's day, which is why Browns is ideal with its back–to–basics British grub. Kids, fussy–eaters and the most awkward of old folks are all catered for, but anyone with a more sophisticated palate will be criminally uninspired. The evening meals are slightly better, though the 'less is more' philosophy has been taken a bit far, to the extent that less isn't enough. It does have a use as a good relationship barometer though –if you other half's treating you to sausage and mash here rather than champagne and oysters at a romantic bistro, maybe it's time to revaluate your future. Click here to buy Itchy Edinburgh, the UK's best–selling pocket–sized guide to what's on in Edinburgh, including restaurants, clubs, bars, hotels and shopping.
