Blue Parrot Cantina
Mention the Blue Parrot Cantina to any trendy local and they'll either rave about it – and its strawberry margaritas – or guiltily mutter that they've been planning to go but they've just been really, really busy. This homey little basement restaurant, with its terracotta walls, real fire and open–plan kitchen is the granddaddy of the Edinburgh Mexican scene. Unfortunately, like granddaddy, it's starting to show its age and some cosmetic alteration is definitely in order. Plus outdoor toilets, however rustic and cute, lose their appeal after a couple of chilly visits. It's still kindly and welcoming though, and they just might give you a Werther's Original if you're a very lucky boy. Click here to buy Itchy Edinburgh, the UK's best–selling pocket–sized guide to what's on in Edinburgh, including restaurants, clubs, bars, hotels and shopping.
