Scott Monument

Standing high on Princes Street is this Gothic memorial to Sir Walter Scott, Scotland's greatest novelist, behind Irvine Welsh. Wheezing and sweating your way up the 287 steps to the Upper Level is worthwhile, as when you've got your breath back it'll be taken away again by the stunning view of the city.
