Howies

It's all change at Howies. The four Edinburgh branches have had a bit of a reshuffle with Howies Victoria and Howies Waterloo Place opening recently. Meanwhile the St Leonard's Street branch has been leased to another restaurant and the Dalry Road branch has become The Flaming Red Dining Room – see separate entry –. All four restaurants share the same respect for clean unfussy design and high quality inventive grub – or "fine food without the faff" as their motto goes – at reasonable prices. It's all very fresh – excellent seafood and game – and where possible, locally sourced. Each venue manages to retain its own vibe and the menus vary slightly under each chef –regardless though you'll find wicked set menu deals, a 45–minute lunch option and a bargainous wine list – there's also BYO –. A true – and some would say passé – Edinburgh institution.
