The Southern Bar
The Southern used to be grubby, but a facelift has transformed this popular hangout, frequented by both students and Edinburgh folk. There are lots of places to sit, including secluded raised areas for romantic tête- à-têtes and hushed chat. There are also sometimes people with guitars lurking about, but don't be alarmed - this is just an indication of the pub's commitment to hosting live music. Great for relaxed evenings out, and for the aforementioned live entertainment. A small word of warning: take a jumper - it's nice, but it's cold.
