The Sheep Heid Inn
More medieval than the Black Death, Scotland's oldest pub has hung around all these years for good reason. The Sheep Heid Inn is a truly Scottish pub, and a very fine one at that. Dating from around 1360, it can count Mary Queen of Scots and King James VI among its previous visitors. It has good beer, decent food, a car park and a skittle alley. Yes, that's right. A skittle alley. Forget the Megabowl, this is the place to hit the lanes. A perennial favourite on sunny days. Oh, and try their barbecued venison burgers. Brilliant.
