The Street
The Street is one of those superb venues that's more all-round than a fat kid doing handbrake turns on a spacehopper. And just like a great Splashworld (the ones with the toilet bowl flume), every town should have one. With decently priced drinks, expertly mixed cocktails, delicious food and accomplished DJs spinning the latest tracks, Itchy highly recommends this place. Monday's 'Double Trouble' 2-for-1 cocktail night will guarantee some busy-looking bright concoctions of fun-in-a-glass to kick off your week and blast away the Monday blues. On Tuesdays it's student night so expect fabulous drinks promos and some top notch tunes from DJ Honky Tonk - cowboy boots and herd of bison not guaranteed, though it would be nice. And don't worry if you already bagged that, ahem, first, years ago - don your cords and Converse and make the most of the cheap drinks and fresh faces. On Wednesdays put all that knowledge to good use at the pub quiz, commandeered by award winning quizmaster Harry Ainsworth, a man armed with more brain-taxing questions than Jeremy Paxman himself. Though we promise you it's infinitely more exciting than a round of University Challenge. And there's a big money prize up for grabs, with a £50 bar tab on offer to medicate overworked minds. Weekends spell party time, with co-owner Trendy Wendy hitting the decks on Fridays with a selection of party tracks to make Mark Ronson green-eyed. Saturdays see in top DJs and monthly pre-club night, FEVER, for some serious dancing. Then round off the week with a roast and their infamous Bloody Mary to ease away the Sunday dread. And if you're still not satisfied, there's a whole host of great events taking place every week, from celebrity DJ sound-offs to a ladies only burlesque night, via Pink Links' monthly gay speed dating every first Sunday of the month. The Street's a perfect venue for every occasion, whether you fancy spending an evening chilling out with friends after work, or if you're up for a more lively night out pre-clubbing. And the best thing is that it won't leave your wallet weighing less than Kate Bosworth on Oscar night.
