Overlooking Roxburgh square, the Roxburgh Hotel offers a more traditional, similarly-priced alternative to Edinburgh's trendy, if pretentious, boutique hotels. A good number of the rooms have excellent views of Edinburgh Castle, and the restaurant offers a delicious menu with an impressive wine cellar to boot. Having recently undergone an extension, the older part of the hotel can be rather noisy as the windows are old-fashioned and lack double-glazing. Despite this, there's a reason that a night at the Roxburgh is first choice for its international patrons. Classy, traditional and efficient.
